Chris Tate says: “What if everything you thought you knew about the markets right now was wrong? Dead wrong?
You see, markets look forward, whereas many traders merely look at today. The expectation is that something they hear today will help them profit today – but markets don’t work that way. Markets look forward so what a trader sees happening in the market today was actually thought about, digested, analysed, and acted upon by other traders months ago.
The principle of looking forward confuses traders who are used to the notion of looking for an explanation of what is happening today – not what new information might mean for the future. As a result, they are often caught off guard by the shifting trends in markets. Because of this, they invariably leave money on the table (and there are few things worse for a trader than leaving money on the table).
As an example this week, I look at the changing perception about inflation and interest rates and what segments of the market are moving because of this. In particular, I look at the tradeable action in indices, FX and commodities.”
